Alabama construction attorney Jacob W. Hill is no stranger to the construction industry. Having grown up the son of a developer and general contractor, Jacob began spending time on construction projects in his childhood, learning the lifecycle of a construction project from the field, not from behind a desk.
Professional Engineer + Lawyer
Before starting Jacob W. Hill, LLC, Jacob worked as an engineer for an Engineering News-Record Top 500 Design Firm and for a general contractor, and gained practical insight into the dynamic, and often complicated, nature of construction projects. His experience included commercial, industrial and heavy civil projects, public and private. In doing so, he gained valuable experience into various project delivery systems, from traditional design-bid-build to design-build. And having that experience working for both an engineering firm and contractor gives him a unique perspective in those all too common engineer/architect and contractor disputes.
Accordingly, Jacob is equipped not only with a progressive engineering background, but with detailed knowledge of construction means, methods, contracts and compliance. Further, he offers an understanding of project management, cross-functional agency collaboration, and a wide range of tactical planning functions. This experience, and the ability to speak the language of construction, gives Jacob the unique ability to anticipate possible issues on the front-end of projects, and limit the potential for those issues, by, for example, drafting well-thought out, thorough contracts that do not leave room for imaginative interpretation.
Jacob Knows Construction — And Isn't Afraid to Get his Boots Dirty
Construction projects can be very paper intensive and, therefore, getting a novice up to speed can be very time consuming. Attorneys not familiar with construction documents may have to spend countless hours getting up to speed. Jacob’s vast experience reading plans and specifications enable him to efficiently get up to speed on your project. No one has to explain to Jacob what a #7 rebar is, how to interpret a soils report, or how to determine the cut and fill on a grading plan.
Jacob feels most at home when he puts on his hardhat and boots to venture out to his clients' construction sites. In fact, seeing the site firsthand often leads to more thoughtful, practical legal solutions.
